Bring your darbuka, your tabla, your def.... Sidqi has taught at several east coast Balkan camps, the Folktours Mideast camp, Rakassah East, and last year he taught at the Mendocino Middle East Camp in CA. He has been head of percussion at Sahara Dance for years ( but taking this summer off to do drum circles) He has made several trips to Istanbul, Turkey, in search of Romani (Gypsy) teachers. In addition, he has had great workshops in his home, with Suhail Kaspar and Issam Houshan of the Bellydance Superstars. He is also founder of WMFC, which was the first organization to bring Rehan Tuscuz from Istanbul to DC, to teach Turkish Romani dance. Using innovative strategies students will learn& practice skills with both Artemis, Zarifa, and Ishtar Not only will Ishtar perform, they will instruct, play during classes, and be a vital role during lessons! Enhance your dance skills with techniques from our wonderful dance teachers! Learn the ins & outs of working with live musicians from our amazing band! *Watch those techniques in action during our Saturday concert featuring our entrancing instructors and marvelous band. Instructors include the legendary Artemis: award winning dancer & teacher; Zarifa: professional educator with over 10yrs dance experience; and Ishtar: gifted musicians & phenomenal band from Pittsburg PA. Amartia will be teaching in FOCUS ONE - COMPETITION PREP TRACK (Room 1) How you prepare for a competition is as important as all the talent, technique, and training. In this track, you will be introduced to different approaches to competing from some of the most successful dancers in the country! "Competing Basics: Everything & the Kitchen Sink!" (Amartia) Learn what pitfalls to avoid when preparing for a competition. How to tweak your dance to meet the expectations of the judges, without letting go of your personal style. How to overcome stage-fright, prepare your costuming, music, dance and ego to handle the unpredictability of the world of competitions. Giving yourself a pep-talk before hitting the stage, dealing with wining, losing and everything that goes in-between.
