Raqs Sharqi, pronounced Rocks Sharky, is the Arabic term for belly dance. It means simply Dance of the East, because the dance moves not just the belly, but the entire body, taking the audience along with the dancer through a spectrum of emotion: anticipation and flirtation, shyness and longing, sometimes sadness and always joy.
