LOCATION
The restaurant is across from the Towson library, at 321 York Rd between Susquehanna and Chesapeake.You can park RIGHT on York Rd across the street. How easy is that? Parking is easy...
There is a parking lot behind the restaurant that you get to from Susquehanna Ave.- it is free on Sundays. It's the one you would use for the store called Health Concern. The lot nearest Cafe Spice is now clearly someone else's lot w/ a sign that you will be towed- I suggest we don't park there!
The lot on York by the sub shop has Cafe Spice spaces in it- any space that isn't marked for some other store is fair game. Check out googlemaps.com
WHAT TO EXPECT
The restaurant has regular Sunday patrons before us, unlike the old Five Seasons. You MUST NOT get there early. Doors open at 3:45pm.
The show will start with drumming and dancing.
There will be a buffet of Indian food. Your drinks are not included, nor is a tip, in the $20 entrance fee. There will be an intermission.
Students and professionals dance at these haflas, and you are encouraged to clap and zhagareet for them all. Joyful noise is welcome and appreciation is a good thing.
If you are pulled up to dance, do so! And then sit back down before the song ends so the dancer can finish her song. There can be open dancing at the end and at intermission.
PERFORMERS
The leader of each troupe and all soloists get in and eat for free. Performers who don't fit on the free list are required to buy the buffet- make sure your troupe members get on the 'discount' list. Musicians sometimes can fit on the free list, or the discount list. The headline dancer for each month is paid for her performance. Any questions about this should be addressed to Nina well before the day of the show.
Here are some tips to remember :
Give yourself time to find parking and get to the venue on time.
Bring safety pins.
Bring your music on a CD with nothing else on that CD.
Breathe deeply and remember you are among friends.
Bring a coverup. Wear your cover up.
There is no changing room, just a bathroom that all must use. There is an area where dancers can 'hang out' and make adjustments outside the bathroom, but please don't change out in the hall or restaurant!
